Nigeria-Former midfielder and captain Sunday Oliseh was confirmed as the new coach of Nigeria on Wednesday.

Oliseh, 40, takes over from another ex-skipper of the Super Eagles, Stephen Keshi, who was fired earlier this month for breaching his contract by applying to be Ivory Coast coach.

Oliseh met with the NFF Technical Committee on his arrival from Belgium Tuesday to deliberate on certain formalities ahead of his unveiling in Abuja.

He arrived Abuja at about 4:30pm aboard a Lufthansa airline, and met with the committee to finalize the details of his contract. He also received NFF’s five-year development programme before he proceeded on a meeting with the NFF executive board late Tuesday.

NFF President, Amaju Pinnick, who spoke to journalists, expressed his satisfaction with the coming of Oliseh for the Super Eagles’ job, noting that the former captain would in addition to his primary responsibility, engage in the organization of coaching clinics for other coaches and setting out a roadmap to redefine Nigerian football.

The NFF president also disclosed that the full recommendations, which came from both FIFA and CAF on the capabilities of Oliseh, convinced the federation to settle for him.

Pinnick also assured there would be no clash in the duties of the coach with the schedule of the Technical Director of the NFF, Shuaibu Amodu, noting that everything about the operation had been clearly defined.

“We are very much on track. Oliseh has just arrived and he will meet with Technical Committee who will then package the details of his contract before the Executive board, which will also meet later today (Tuesday). If we can finish looking at the details of the contract and he agrees to it, we can go ahead with the unveiling.
