President Muhammadu Buhari has left Nigeria through Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, on his way to Cote d’Ivoire to participate in the 5th European Union-African Union (EU-AU) Summit.

The President will participate in working sessions on the Summit theme: “Investing in the Youth for a Sustainable Development,” and on the margins of the Summit, meet with a number of African Heads of State and their European Union counterparts.

Femi Adesina, the Special Assistant to Buhari on Media and Publicity in a release on Monday, said
President Buhari will use the occasion of the Summit to reiterate Nigeria’s readiness to work with African and European countries to address the challenges affecting both continents, such as peace and security.

President Muhammadu Buhari approves payment of outstanding Paris Club refund

President Muhammadu Buhari has directed Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun; Minister of Budget and National Planning, Udo Udoma; and CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, to work with governors to ensure the payment of outstanding Paris and London Clubs refunds before the end of the year.
The President gave the directive at a meeting he had with governors at the Villa in Abuja on Monday.

According to information posted on the Presidency’s twitter handles, the meeting featured discussions on the nation’s economy, workers’ welfare as well as Federal-State relations, among others.

“President @MBuhari has directed the Ministers of @FinMinNigeria and Budget & National Planning and Governor @cenbank to commence negotiations with the Governors Forum to enable payment of outstanding Paris & London Club refunds, before the end of the year.”

Appoint Credible Petroleum Minister - Sani Shehu to President Buhari

Looks like the weeks ahead will be tough. Senator Shehu Sani (Kaduna Central) has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to remove himself as the Minister of Petroleum Resources and appoint a Minister that can be accountable for the nation’s oil industry.
Sani in a statement on Thursday opined that Pres Buhari had limited time to oversee the oil industry and insisted that appointing a credible minister would douse the tension in the oil industry.
Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, had written a petition to President Buhari, alleging acts of insubordination and humiliation by the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Dr. Maikanti Baru.

The Senate had also set up a panel to probe Baru, over allegations made against him.

“President Buhari should disengage from being a Petroleum Minister and appoint a substantive minister whom the nation can hold accountable to the happenings in the nation oil industry.

“The President position as a minister can drag him into issues in the oil sector of which he has limited time to attend to. A broom immersed in oil cannot sweep clean,” the senate said.

There is no easy solution to Nigeria’s problems - President Mohammadu Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Saturday during the independence day, admitted that there is no easy solution to the countless of problems facing the country today.

In a nationwide broadcast to mark 56th Independence Day anniversary, the President, however, assured Nigerians that his administration was pursuing the solutions available to it with a view to repositioning the country. Buhari said it was normal for countries to face ups and downs, while attributing the economic recession in the country to a shortage of foreign exchange and violence by the Niger Delta militants.

He said, the problems are not permanent but temporary.

He said, “The recession has been brought about by a critical shortage of foreign exchange. Oil price dropped from an average of $100 per barrel over the last decade to an average of $40 per barrel this year and last.

“Worse still, the damage perpetrated by Niger Delta thugs on pipelines reduced Nigeria’s production to below one million barrels per day against the normal 2.2 million barrels per day. Consequently, the naira is at its weakest, but the situation will stabilise.

“But this is only temporary. Historically, about half of our dollar export earnings went to importation of petroleum products and food. Nothing was saved for a rainy day during the periods of prosperity. We are now reaping the whirlwinds of corruption, recklessness and impunity.

“There are no easy solutions, but there are solutions nonetheless. The government is pursuing them in earnest. We are to repair our four refineries so that Nigeria can produce most of our petrol requirements locally, pending the coming on stream of new refineries. That way, we will save $10bn
